Maypop Season

emilyforbeauty

This morning before Storytime, I wanted to share the first harvest of our "Maypops."

Maypops come from the Passionflower vine. The non-tropical Passion Fruit.

The country folk named them after the "POP!" sound they make when they ripen, fall off the vine, and are accidentally stepped on by the barefoot kids runnin' around in the natural.

(Luke and Grace were made for this life).

We have been so excited to try one ever since I realized that they were growing wild all over the property.

For those of you who don't know, The Passionflower is a natural Sedative; that works amazing for Extreme Anxiety and Insomnia. Maybe I should harvest some for the people of Santa Fe who like to stay up all night.

I had previously tried the tea for some restless Momma nights, When I saw them all over the land, I was ecstatic.

Passionflower was really the only tea that works I've found works well for an overactive mind!

BUT, when I found out there was an edible fruit, I was in dreamland.

Grace & I waited until we saw Meemaw and Pawpaw to share the harvest since we all have never tasted this rare fruit before.

The Taste and texture are extremely difficult to explain.

BUT PHEWWWY!!!!

Wow! What a mouthful of delight to the people of East Texas.

Thank you, Sweet little Baby Jesus!!

My Daddy said it tasted to him like a "Mangosteen" that he tried in Malaysia.

My Momma described the taste of this "May Pole,"

(Because she accidentally renames everything...even us. She loves calling me by my long-passed Dogs name.)
like a mix between a "Lemon, Plum, or maybe a Starfruit."

My sister tells straight Southern Hood facts, "It's good but too much damn work for a little bit of fruit!"

It's safe to say We liked it!
